The truth is …

Ohio put rules in place last year to make the data centers themselves pay for the power plants, even if they end up not using all the power.

In July 2025, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved the AEP Ohio Data Center Tariff that requires large data centers pay for 85% of contracted capacity for 12 years – even if they use less.

Ohio’s own Consumers’ Counsel signed off on the plan specifically to protect hardworking Ohioans from stranded-cost risk.

It’s the data centers’ cost … not Ohioans!

Rates can go up for many reasons, and Ohioans should ask about it.
